OUR HISTORY
The story of the Casillo Group's successes is the story of the Casillo family, which has continuously led the business since 1958, the year of its foundation, when a small milling plant in Corato was acquired, and the very young Vincenzo was called to manage it. It is a long story that has followed a single common thread since 1958: a drive for innovation and a passion for the land, the guiding values of the Group which are also the cornerstone of the Casillo Foundation, established to promote cultural initiatives in and for the local area. The fundamental stages of the Casillo Group’s growth path are listed below.
1950s
1958
The Casillo family buys a small milling plan in the town of Corato, Bari. The company, a sole proprietorship at the time, is named Molino Casillo Francesco. The management is entrusted to the very young Vincenzo Casillo.
1960s
1961
The production plant is enlarged several times. A significant development is the construction of the first reinforced concrete silos built in southern Italy.
1970s
1970
Purchase of Semolifici Andriesi S.r.l.
1979
Vincenzo Casillo and Antonio Moramarco establish Semolificio A. Moramarco S.p.A.
1980s
1982
Vecchio Mulino S.r.l. is established for the real estate development of Andria, a plant later transferred to Corato.
1983
A new production plant comes into operation in Corato, further to the transfer of the plant purchased in 1958.
1990s
1992
A new production plan is built to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
1993
The Semolifici Andriesi S.r.l. plant is expanded and transferred to an area adjacent to the Molino Casillo Francesco S.r.l. plant.
1998
Casillo Partecipazioni S.r.l. is established as the Group’s holding company.
2000-2010
2002
A new experimental plant is launched to introduce decortication, an innovative stage in the cereal milling process.
2003
The Cinque Cereali trading company, now Casillo Commodities Italia S.p.A., is established.
2005
The Barilla Group acquires all the shares in Semolifici di Termoli S.r.l.
2006
Il Group establishes its current shareholding structure with the total exit of the Moramarco family.
2008
Industrial and commercial operations are launched in Sicily. Inter-company agreement with Alpe Adria, Trenitalia and Pasta Zara to launch the first unit train service from Giovinazzo to Trieste. The company Selezione Casillo S.r.l. is established.
2010-2020
2011
Semolificio A. Moramarco S.p.A.’s production plans are updated and production capacity increased; the Cinque Cereali S.r.l. trading company changes its name to Casillo Commodities Italia S.p.A.; the second unit train service from Giovinazzo to Brescia is inaugurated; a new office block is built for the Casillo Group.
2012
Purchase of the company Silos Granari della Sicilia S.r.l. and start of operations at the milling plant in Rovato, Brescia; shares in Serin Srl, operating in the renewable energy sector, Molino San Pietro in Vico and Molino Maionchi Silvio & C., Lucca-based milling companies producing soft and durum wheat flours, are bought from the Ascopiave Group and merged into the new Molino di Lucca S.r.l.
2014
Financial contribution made to scientific research for the “gluten friendly” project; SA8000 certification achieved and finalist for the Oscar di Bilancio financial reporting award.
2015
Consolidation of growth with internationalisation of the Group involving the establishment of two new subsidiaries: Casillo Commodities Brasil S.A. and Transgrain France S.a.s.; takeover of the management of the (soft wheat) milling plants of the former Molino Alimonti through the newly established Molino dell’Adriatico S.r.l .; acquisition of De Franceschi S.p.A. - Monfalcone.
2016
Real estate initiative launched in the municipality of Rome; increase in the investment held by Molino Casillo S.p.A. in the company New Gluten World S.r.l .; takeover of the management of a milling complex in Salerno owned by Pastificio Di Martino Gaetano & F.lli S.p.A. for milling around 10,000 quintals of durum wheat per day.
2017
Establishment of the Moscow-based subsidiary Grainprom, involved in the formation and marketing of agricultural commodities; start of flour production at the Parma plant; signing of a supply chain agreement with Coldiretti to promote the production of organic wheat; opening of a Bistro at Fico Eataly World (Bologna); acquisition of an important industrial complex in Salerno used to mill durum wheat; sale of a significant stake in Serin S.p.A.
2018
Start-up of origination and storage activities at the “Nuovo Borgo Libertà” site. Establishment of the company Nuova Agriculture Borgo Libertà S.r.l. Continuation of the Group's internationalisation process through the establishment of the subsidiary Transgrain Central Europe Kft based in Budapest. Consolidation in the real estate market through the development of new investment initiatives implemented by Gong Capital S.p.A. which gained control of two companies operating in the sector, enriching the Group's assets with two properties located in the municipality of Milan, one of which houses one of Bocconi University's 8 student residences. Establishment of a new company, Kamelya Real Estate S.r.l., based in Rome.
2019
Completion of the acquisition of the mill in Sorbolo (Parma), the ownership of which was taken over by the Group. Purchase of a new industrial milling complex in Santa Maria Nuova - Ancona to improve the Group's production capacity in Italy. Acquisition of Resnova Immobiliare Bari S.r.l., owner of a prestigious property located in the city of Bari.
SINCE 2020
2020
Launch of the new Molino Casillo brand to respond to the needs of an increasingly specialised market. Born from the drive for innovation, which has always been at the heart of the Group, the Molino Casillo brand is the result of a new corporate vision that intends to consolidate the Group's leadership in the Ho.Re.Ca., Food and Beverage market, as well as in professional world and retail sector. From the creation of the logo, to the introduction of new references, from packaging to a complete and far-reaching communication and marketing plan, the new corporate strategy aims to position Molino Casillo's products in the premium and super-premium range and also to perform a leading role in the production and marketing of soft wheat.
2021
Molina is established as a range of craft beers by Molino Casillo produced entirely in Puglia with Italian durum wheat carefully selected and processed by expert master brewers. A step towards the world of beverage and a new stage on the road to a success that has made the Casillo brand synonymous with excellence in the production and processing of wheat for over sixty years.
